Saving your Budget

There are two savings you can make by using web based courses.

Time

Waiting Time: Having identified a training need, and then found a suitable course, you may have to wait several weeks for it. That may not be a major issue with some training but what if a fast introduction to Excel spreadsheets is needed by Friday!

Out of time: Out of hours training can be difficult to source, but if you run a late shift/nightshift operation, that may be when you want the training delivered. Perhaps on several sites at the same time too.

Real time: When you find a course, it will mean traveling time and this will take up staff time and cost your business too. Fewer businesses and organisations run overstaffed anymore! So back up for people when absent may be non existent.

If the work pressures are on, how long can you afford to have people absent?

Attention time: When a person attends a course they will not get 100% attention for the day and the larger the course numbers the worse it gets.

Web based training - Time savings: As training is delivered direct to a person's computer, they don't even need to get to a meeting room.

To save disruption to workflow, sessions can be in 1 hour blocks, timed to suit your business. In addition, follow up and support sessions are easy to provide, adding great flexibility to your training.

A one hour session is the equivalent of a one day course for an individual, as it is not possible to get that kind of attention when with a larger group.

Training delivered to you is also designed for you and no one else. So no wasted time here.

Additional expenses: If you are using external courses, you will incur additional expenses for travel and perhaps accommodation too. At worst this can add up to more than the cost of the original course!

Now this is a narrow perspective, as you would expect some form of direct or indirect payback for your investment. However, you need to get even more back to cover the original outlay.

Waste: External courses will seldom meet all the needs of those attending. This is a sad fact of life, but there is bound to be some redundancy in the course content. It may not be relevant for your situation. Those attending may know some of it already or it may be too/insufficiently advanced.

Beware too of sending people on "skills" type courses e.g. IT programme skills and then not getting them to use their new knowledge and skill immediately. Even a delay of a week will delay the use of the new knowledge and the value of your investment will begin to diminish.

Web based training - Cash savings: The obvious one is that there are no expenses beyond the actual training costs. In addition, the more people linked into a session, the lower your costs per head.

In the less efficient "webinar" situation (up to 100 pep ole) costs could be as low as £10 per person. This session could include people from any office or site, delivered right to their workplace.

Also there are no associated printing, or copying costs as course notes and information can be delivered direct during the web session.
